Services for HSC Staff

Library and information services are provided free of charge to Health and Social Care (HSC) and Public Safety (PS) staff throughout Northern Ireland. Employees of Health and Social Care Services and Public Safety authorities are entitled to become registered members of the library.

Services are provided from 6 main libraries in different parts of the province and through the HONNI website which is the primary gateway to electronic resources for local HSC professionals. Additionally some hospital sites have limited library facilities, or a 'HONNI hub' which provides an access point for HSC professionals to use the HONNI website via a dedicated computer.

What can I use the services for?

  • Borrow books from any Medical & HSC Library site
  • Search the online catalogue for details of available resources, both print and electronic
  • Log on to access an extensive collection of databases, electronic books and electronic journals
  • Place requests for books and articles not available in full-text.
  • Renew books and manage your library account online
  • Obtain training and support

How do I access Services?

Simply register as a member of the Medical & HSC Library.  You will be issued with a username and password to access electronic resources.  Library cards (library smartcards) are only issued on request. Library smartcards are required to gain access to the QUB Libraries in Belfast (the McClay, Biomedical and Medical Libraries), and for printing/copying purposes on these sites.

What help is available?

Library staff can provide tailored advice on literature searching and training in the use of electronic resources.  Help and advice is available in all libraries and staff are there to assist users to make the best possible use of its resources. Library Guides are available covering various aspects of library services including how to find resources in a particular field.

Already a member?

If you have already joined the library and want more information on how to get the most out of the services and resources available, try reading some of the Library Guides or avail of training from the subject librarians.

It is important to keep your details up to date with the library to ensure that you receive a seamless service.  Use the online Change of Details form or membership Renewal Form to do so.
